For those of you that don't watch Steven Universe:
They are alien gemstones whose bodies are damn touchable holograms

Canon: Steven's mom Rose Quartz (the curly haired woman in the first panel) is dead. She gave up her physical form to give birth to steven, who is half human, but carries his mother's gemstone (which every gem needs in order to physically exist) and has her gem powers. We still don't know why she did so.
And Pearl really, really loved Rose.


Headcanon: After losing Rose, Pearl denied even looking at the 1 year old boy... she thought of him a useless replacement of his mother. Something like this.. 36.media.tumblr.com/276fcfa361…
Could almost say she hated him, even though she hadn't spent any time with him what so ever, or barely looked at him since he was born.
She never realized, Steven is just like his mother, he has her eyes, her vibe, her being.
